Role description

As Head of Integrated Programme Management Office (IPMO) you will devise and provide guidance and advice to project teams and develop a PMO service supporting the implementation of a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).

Flexible base location with the need to be in Harwell, Warrington, or West Cumbria two days a week.



  • Lead and manage the PMO, develop clear vision and standards, and champion the use of best practice project management standards and processes.
  • Stakeholder management is an important part of this role so you will need to build strong networks both internally and externally.
  • You will develop and agree on budgets for the program and projects and forecast actual costs against them.
  • Drive continuous improvement of risks and issues management process within the organization.
  • Lead on adopting configuration management techniques to ensure the validity of program documentation and information throughout the program lifecycle, updating sponsors as required.

Essential skills

  • You will have experience in establishing and leading a Programme Management Office for a complex and multi-tranche program within a public sector or similar environment.
  • Proven experience of IPA and government departmental level assurance regimes and preparation for assurance reviews.
  • Experience within transitioning organizations and/or organizational change programs.
