RWM’s vision as an organisation is to create a safer future by managing radioactive waste effectively, to protect people and the environment, collaborating with experts on multi-million pound research programmes and radioactive waste producers to find ways to package it that are suitable for disposal in a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).
Protecting current and future generations is at the heart of RWM’s mission to deliver a geological disposal facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions.
The RWM team includes scientists and engineers who are carrying out research and development activities to support the planning and delivery of geological disposal here in the UK. At the front end of that is the selection of how and what solution RWM will go forward with and so they’re seeking an individual to manage the process for the optioneering and selection of disposal system concepts.
RWM is seeking an individual with broad knowledge of geological disposal, and ideally from within the nuclear industry, but although other highly regulated industry exposure could also work. To add to that, an individual with more junior experience that has optioneering analysis experience, again within nuclear or highly regulated industry, could also be a good consideration. The key thing to note is that this position needs an individual who has the ability to seek the expertise it needs whilst not getting bogged down in the detail; being able to keep it simple, keep moving and being a robust enough character to work amongst competing and specialist interfaces, whilst at the same time forming part of a multi-discipline and flexible team.
The ideal candidate should hold qualifications within a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. Chartership is not essential but there is a desire for an individual who is working towards it, or would like to work towards it. This will demonstrate that this position is a great career opportunity. A full and detailed brief is available upon request.
