Working in support of Longenecker & Associates, Thomas Thor USA is currently seeking multiple Quality Control Inspectors at the Idaho National Laboratory. This is a position to be based near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Longenecker & Associates is a woman-owned and operated small business with 30 years of experience providing technical, management, analytical and other support to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) complex and sites, including many of the National Laboratories.

Role description

This position supports construction activities performed by the Granite Construction Corporation (GCC) for the Spent Fuel Handling Recapitalization Project (SFHP) at the Department of Energy (DOE) Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) located approximately 50 miles west of Idaho Falls, ID. GCC is contracted by Fluor Marine Propulsion to construct large reinforced concrete structures to nuclear quality standards (ASME NQA-1-2008/1a-2009) for the SFHP facility. GCC directly interfaces with Jacobs, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) contractor for Fluor Marine Propulsion. The physical work site is in a high desert environment (4800 feet MSL) with low precipitation (8 inches annually) and significant temperature extremes (-40 oF to +100 oF).


  • Pre-pour and post-pour examination of precast concrete.
  • Make and test cylinders.
  • Perform moisture aggregate test.
  • Check concrete products for length, width and detail. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Education & Experience

  • 10yrs experience in construction, inspection, concrete, QA/QC
  • Bachelors preferred but not required in Civil Engineering, construction management, Mechanical and/or Structural engineering, Architecture
  • Certification: ACI certification and NQA-1
  • Based on the ACI cert requirements; the ideal in current cert; following by previous cert that can be re-obtained through testing; relevant civil experience that allows meeting the requirements to take the initial ACI test. Current plan is to reimburse for cost of successful test/certification completion.
  • Based on current plans for a 5 day/10-hour schedule during pour execution; plan to pay for hours scheduled over 40 (current view is straight time for hours over 40, versus time and ½)
  • US Citizenship required, no dual citizenship
  • Clearance is a plus but not required
  • Open to relocation is plus
  • Must have knowledge of concrete fundamentals and be able to read blueprints.
  • ACI Certification required.
