For a worldwide R&D player in the field of radio-biology, operating in Canada, we are currently looking for a Radiobiology Scientific Lead to contribute to high-quality research outcomes in the area of low-dose radiation.

This is a permanent position to be based in Chalk River, Ontario, Canada.

Role description

The Radio-biology Scientific Lead role combines strategic, managerial and hands-on responsibilities.

You will be leading new research initiatives, you will be managing a team of scientists and technologists (10-15 people) and you will conduct hands-on laboratories experiments.



You will be leading new research initiatives 

  • Pro-actively working with business development to identify opportunities and lead R&D activities for commercial applications.
  • Leading initiatives and generating new research projects proposals with appropriate resourcing and budgeting.
  • Actively participating in short and long term planning of the branch and the health program, influencing the branch’s and company’s strategic technical direction in the field of low-dose radiation.
  • Identifying emerging market opportunities and supporting execution of commercial projects.

You will be managing a team of scientists and technologists (10-15 people)

  • Providing technical guidance, on-the-job training, leadership and supervision for scientific and technical staff, including performing yearly Performance Assessments.
  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out with due diligence relative to established Quality Assurance/Quality Control requirements, applicable environmental and safety regulations and requirements (industrial and radiological), and company policies and procedures (including relevant labour contracts).
  • Analysing the results of the team’s scientific research, and preparing research reports for publication in peer reviewed scientific literature, as well as research reports for internal and external customers.

You will be supporting a team to conduct hands-on experiments

  • Planning and conducting biological research in areas relevant to mechanisms of cellular, molecular, tissue and organism responses to ionizing radiation using both in vivo and in vitro models.
  • Conducting research in areas relevant to radiation effects and risk assessment.
  • Attending and delivering oral presentations at technical meetings, workshops, and conferences representing the company on major scientific and technological issues nationally and internationally.
  • Producing administrative, progress, scientific and technical reports, including high quality journal and project publications to inform and support federal priorities.
  • Providing expert scientific advice within company and to external clients.


Essential skills

  • A PhD in a relevant Biological/Biochemical discipline
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of relevant working experience in the areas of Radiobiology, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Microbiology
  • Strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills/experience in mouse cancer models, cell and molecular biology, immunology, DNA repair, DNA damage response, epigentics, as they relate to questions in radiation protection as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, research reports or fellowships
  • Demonstrated ability to publish the results of his/her scientific research as lead or senior author in peer reviewed scientific literature
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate within multidisciplinary environment and audiences, including shareholders (non-expert)
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of supervisory experience in a research environment is required
  • A demonstrated commitment to laboratory safety including a good working knowledge of the hazards associated with biological materials, chemicals and radioactive material
