I have just returned from a conference committee meeting at the IAEA in preparation for the 2018 HRD Conference. This event happens every 4 years and brings together HR leaders from around the world to share ideas, best practice and lessons learned. It is by far the largest dedicated HR conference for the nuclear industry and provides a valuable opportunity to meet and learn from peers. The fact that the nuclear industry is so global, and that human resources is very much at the centre of the industry, means that this event is a great opportunity for building relationships with international peers.
The event is in South Korea between 28-31 May and registration is through this link on the IAEA website. There is no cost to attend the conference, and all applications need to be confirmed through a member state. This is normally an easy process if you are working in the nuclear industry.
There are four themes to the conference, one on each day:
Day 1: Attract, Recruit and Retain a High Quality Nuclear Workforce
Day 2: Development of Individuals and Teams within the Organizations
Day 3: Education, Training and Qualification of a Nuclear Workforce
Day 4: Organizational Culture and Its Impact on the Workforce
This year the event also includes a student competition. Over 180 videos have been submitted by teams of students between the ages of 14-18 on the benefits of nuclear science and technology to the world. The top 5 teams will be flown to South Korea and a winner will be chosen by a panel at the conference. Click on this link says a bit more about the competition.
