In the framework of a major new project focused on Spent Nuclear Fuel Management, our client is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to oversee the supply of new spent fuel dry storage casks. This pivotal role involves close collaboration with other Lead Engineers across various specialties (Safety, Radiological Protection, Neutronics), Project Managers, and Customers to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to defining the design basis for casks and storage buildings.
- Draft technical specifications for casks and buildings.
- Prepare requests for quotations, evaluate bids, and support Customer negotiations with international suppliers.
- Manage technical aspects of contracts from kickoff through to site delivery and acceptance tests.
- Oversee cask licensing, manufacturing, and qualification, including:
- Organizing and participating in the review of safety files for spent fuel casks.
- Assisting plant operators and Customers in technical discussions with Belgian Safety Authorities.
- Providing technical expertise to support Customers and Plant Operators.
- Managing interfaces between Utilities and Contractors.
- Auditing and following up on Contractors’ manufacturing processes with the QC Group.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to a team of Design Engineers within the Nuclear Fuel & Cask team involved in the project.
Main Requirements:
- Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanics or Electro-Mechanics; a degree in Nuclear Engineering or a similar field is highly advantageous.
- Significant experience of engineering experience in the nuclear sector.
- Strong knowledge of PWR nuclear fuel design and operation.
- Good understanding of spent fuel cask design.
- Keen interest in design, manufacturing, and site operation activities.
- Technical curiosity and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in French or Dutch, with complete proficiency in English.
- Ability to obtain Nuclear habilitation in Belgium.
