For one of our clients, we are searching for a Senior Project Controls Engineer to support the delivery of a major nuclear new-build programme in the UK. This is a high-impact role within a complex, highly regulated environment, offering the opportunity to contribute to one of Europe’s largest nuclear projects.
Our client is leading the UK’s Nuclear New Build Programme, delivering new nuclear power stations at Hinkley Point C (Somerset) and Sizewell C (Suffolk). You will join a central Integrated Project Controls (IPC) team that acts as a centre of excellence, owning the single source of truth for project performance data and enabling successful project delivery.
As a Senior Project Controls Engineer, you will act as a technical authority within the Project Controls function, ensuring consistent implementation of project controls strategy, governance, and best practices across the programme. You will support key delivery areas such as Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Nuclear Island, and Balance of Plant, managing estimates and performance data for scopes valued between £10m and £500m.
Main Resonsibilities:
- Act as the Project Controls subject matter expert within a nominated programme or project area
- Lead the delivery and assurance of estimating, forecasting, and performance reporting aligned to CBS/WBS
- Maintain and assure the integrity of project controls data within systems such as EcoSys, Primavera P6, ARM, and Power BI
- Produce accurate forecasts and insightful reporting in line with defined reporting cycles
- Provide analysis and commentary on schedule drivers, performance trends, risks, and opportunities
- Challenge and review estimating assumptions, uncertainties, and scenarios to support evidence-based decision-making
- Support Programme and Area Directors through reviews, workshops, and focused estimating sessions
- Collaborate across cost, schedule, risk, and performance disciplines to ensure fully integrated project controls outputs
- Support assurance activities including Programme Reviews, Board Meetings, and Portfolio Risk Reviews
- Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes, tools, and reporting
- Provide training and mentoring on estimating management and software to project teams and stakeholders
Key Experience and Skills:
Technical and Professional Skills
- Expert knowledge of Project Controls, with strong specialism in Estimating
- Ability to integrate estimating with cost, schedule, and risk information
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to data integrity
- Proven experience delivering clear, concise insights to senior stakeholders, including executive-level audiences
- Ability to challenge assumptions constructively and influence decision-making
- Capable of working effectively in a complex, matrixed organisation
Tools and Systems
Experience with, or strong working knowledge of:
- EcoSys (Cost, Change, EVM)
- Primavera P6 (Scheduling)
- ARM (Risk, Opportunities, Trends)
- @Risk (QCRA), Safran (QSRA)
- Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Power BI and reporting dashboards
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Project Management, Engineering, Project Controls, or a related discipline
- Demonstrable experience operating as a senior or expert-level Project Controls professional
- Experience within major infrastructure or construction programmes is desirable
- Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated environments is advantageous but not essential
