“You will be joining a respected, well-established project team with a track record of delivering tangible decommissioning objectives. The project work is carried out across both the Pond and Plant and Structures project areas which provides plenty of variety to the work scope. We have programmed activities to deplant reactor building areas and to decontaminate and decommission redundant effluent treatment facilities.
As a Lead Waste Engineer your responsibilities will be:
- Support the development and implementation of the Waste Strategy and Waste Management Plans, identifying areas of improvement and integration.
- Manage efficiently the time, costs, processes, and disposal of ILW, LLW, and conventional (non-Rad) waste according to regulatory requirements.
- Advice and check site projects and waste operations (such as the implementation of the strategy and assistance of BAT/ BPM and BPEO studies)
- Manage the communication relation with internal and external stakeholders, having an input in performance and resource management and loss control.
- Contribute effectively to training, evaluation, and managing the team in charge, providing regular support when needed.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree/HNC/HND (NQF Level 5) or equivalent in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline.
- Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Certificate
- International Movement of Dangerous Goods Certificate.
Location: The Lead Waste Engineer will be based at Hunterston, however flexibility can be discussed.
Working hours: Mon – Thur (37 hours)

Please be aware this role holder requires security clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.
There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance of the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
