For one of our clients, a prominent engineering and EPC services company, we are currently seeking a Senior Reliability and Safety Engineer. This is a permanent position based in the beautiful city of Genoa, Italy. We are looking for a dedicated nuclear safety engineer who is eager to support our client while also taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the stunning Italian landscapes.

The role:

As a Senior Reliability and Safety Engineer in the Tendering and Technical Integration Design Unit, you will support transversal engineering activities related to functional safety analysis of systems and systems of systems. Your responsibilities will include requirements management and verification, PIRT, FMECA, HAZOP analysis, risk analysis, RAMI analysis, and PRA.

You will be responsible for defining and implementing functional and safety requirements in systems at the concept design level, as well as conducting in-depth analyses and reviews of systems at the basic or final design stage. Your goal will be to ensure that specific criteria and requirements for minimizing risks, as well as reliability and availability targets, are met. Additionally, you will ensure that the safety and operational systems of nuclear power plants or nuclear facilities are designed according to safety standards, including redundancy, diversification, separation, and independence principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform the functional analysis of systems or systems of systems, with particular focus on safety function and safety requirements, eliciting detailed requirements from discipline experts, whenever applicable.
  • Manage the system requirements, ensuring they are properly traced and verified, through dedicated tools, including, but not limited to, compliance matrices and justification reports.
  • Perform FMECA,. DFMEA and PFMEA of complex systems through the support of discipline experts, in order to identify critical aspects and any beneficial preventive or mitigative modification.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in the performance of HAZOP analyses through check-lists, what-if approach or elicitation of safety and operational hazards.
  • Perform RAMI analyses, based on both fault-tree and reliability block diagram methods, aiming at demonstrating the expected targets are met or suggesting improvements to meet the targets.
  • Perform Risk Analysis for both complex tenders or projects, at different stages of maturity, ranging from engineering activities to installation activities.
  • Perform event-tree and fault-tree analyses for the Probabilistic Risk Assessment associated to safety systems, or portions of complex nuclear installations.
  • Identify postulated initiating events and hazards for innovative nuclear plants or facilities through Master Logic Diagram methods or any equivalent bottom-up / top-down methods
  • Coordinate and perform multi-disciplinary sessions for the identification of state of knowledge and safety importance of specific phenomena in advanced nuclear power plants or facilities.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Master or equivalent degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of the spoken and written English language (fluent).
  • Basic principles of Nuclear Safety Culture.
  • Experience in international safety standards, including IAEA safety standards.
  • Experience in probabilistic safety assessments.
  • Experience in tools and methods for requirement management and definition.
  • Experience in PIRT, MLD, HAZOP, FMECA, RAMI, PRA.
  • Experience with fault-tree and reliability block diagram methods.
  • Good knowledge of risk analysis (ISO 31000/2018).
  • Good knowledge of typical contents for Preliminary and Final Safety Reports.
  • Good knowledge of internationally recognized reliability database for nuclear and non-nuclear applications and reliability prediction methods.
