For one of our clients, a prominent engineering and EPC services company, we are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer This is a permanent position based in the beautiful city of Genoa, Italy. We are looking for a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer who is eager to support our client while also taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the stunning Italian landscapes.

The role:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will support the engineering design activities mainly referring to MV & LV distribution systems for nuclear applications. You will design and size all the major electrical components and machines, identifying the “fit for purpose” solutions from conceptual/basic to detailed design. You will also manage the supply of these components according to national (CEI) and international (IEC/EN) electrical codes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, with the Head of Unit, the Electrical Systems Engineering of AC/DC power systems for operational and emergency needs, ensuring the execution of design activities according to the electrical engineering principles as well as to the best electrical engineering practices.
  • Develop technical specs, load lists, SLDs 3LDs, electrical sizing calculation, purchase technical specification, technical evaluation of the Supplier’s offers, technical follow up of the supplies.
  • Follow up the manufacturing/assembling, the FAT, the on-site installation, and testing activities of the electrical switchboards/components.
  • Support the on-site installation activities for electrical works.
  • Coordinate/Supervise both mono-disciplinary working groups, by coaching and mentoring the group itself and the individuals in technical and personal skills enabling them to deliver, and subs.
  • Identify and manage the internal & external interfaces (stakeholders within the project delivery framework).
  • Support Project Managers, Project Engineers as well as the working group in defending electrical design positions/solutions towards Client’s discussions and comments to engineering docs.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education: MSc Degree in Electric Engineering or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of English language (spoken and written, fluent)
  • Professional experience: significant experience in electrical systems engineering in nuclear companies or in highly regulated industrial sectors
  • Basic competences:
    • Design of new MV/LV site distribution systems (AC/DC – MV MCS, LV PCs/MCCs, sub-distribution boards), off-site interfaces (substation), grounding and lightning protection, plant lighting systems, battery system for NPPs, and integration of electrical systems in existing ecosystems (including upgrade or refurbishment of existing plant, e.g., NPP PLEX programs)
    • Design of MV/LV protection systems (legacy and digital systems)
    • Design of MV/LV switchboards, cable lists, power typical drawings, and WD schematics
    • Knowledge of electrical machines (generators, motors, transformers, UPS, genset SBDG/EDG/UDG)
    • Knowledge of relevant electrical norms and standards (e.g., CEI/EN/IEC), including functional safety (i.e., IEC 61508, IEC 61513)
    • Knowledge of power system component sizing software (e.g., Etap, Ampere, Caneco, DocWin)
    • Knowledge of nuclear-specific codes and standards for safety application (e.g., IEEE 1E harsh and mild environment and CGD programs, RCC-E K1-K2-K3 levels, IEC), including development of nuclear safety functional requirements for electrical systems and environmental and/or seismic qualification programs
    • Knowledge of the relevant EU Directives (e.g., LV, EMC, Machinery, ATEX)
    • Experience in electrical on-site works, including development of construction and commissioning documentation
