An ambitious clean energy scale-up is seeking a motivated and experienced Experiment & Chemistry Director to lead their experimental program and chemistry team, playing a key role in the development of next-generation nuclear technology.

This deep-tech startup brings together a passionate team of around 50 professionals all dedicated to developing cutting-edge nuclear energy solutions. Focused on Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology, the organization is committed to accelerating the availability of clean, safe, and sustainable energy to help address the climate crisis.
Currently in the development phase, the team is working to validate the reactor design through a combination of experiments, simulations, analyses, and strategic partnerships. Their approach is rooted in multidisciplinary collaboration, with a strong emphasis on openness, transparency, and shared purpose-ensuring the entire team grows and succeeds together.
The Role
As Experiment & Chemistry Director, you will lead and grow a team of experts working in molten salt chemistry, materials science, and corrosion research. You’ll oversee the design, setup, and execution of experiments critical to validating the reactor design and safety case.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the experimental program and chemistry team, both in-house and through external partnerships.
- Oversee high-priority R&D topics, including:
- Salt characterization and its behavior in the reactor’s primary and secondary systems.
- Salt-structure interaction and corrosion analysis using custom-built test loops.
- Material testing and qualification for high-temperature applications.
- Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and rigorous quality control of experiments and data.
- Drive team development, foster collaboration, and build a high-performance culture.
Your Background
- Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science.
- 10+ years of experience leading R&D teams and managing experimental programs.
- Hands-on experience with subcontractors, external labs, and multi-partner research efforts.
- Familiarity with molten salt systems, liquid metals, or high-temp materials is a plus.
- Agile, practical mindset suited to a fast-moving technology development environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written).
