Would you like to be engaging with communities at the heart of one of the world’s largest and most challenging environmental engineering projects, as they explore the possibility of hosting a geological disposal facility (GDF) for the long-term management of some of the UK’s radioactive waste?

Role description

You will be the key link between RWM and local communities, maintaining effective communication and strong relationships between key community stakeholders. Your support will be primarily focused on local Working Groups and Community Partnerships, as you work to ensure RWM becomes a trusted partner within the community.


Your key duties will include:

  • Support the Principle Community Engagement Manager and Community Engagement Manager to deliver RWMs day-to-day community engagement approach to Working Groups and Community Partnerships in a local area.
  • Providing support to the meet the needs of the members of the Working Groups and/ or Community Partnerships. This could include stakeholders from community, government, business and voluntary sectors as well as those directly contracted to support the groups (e.g. Chair and Secretariat).
  • Help maintain knowledge of key stakeholders in local communities that can support the siting process as advocates and decision makers

Essential skills

This is an opportunity to use your communication and influencing skills to build trust in the local communities as you will be playing a key role in the delivery of engagement activities (e.g. events, meetings and digital updates via social media etc.).

You should have strong administrative skills, particularly within a community outreach or customer service setting, and building relationships within those. Additionally, due to the multitasking nature of this position, the ability to effectively prioritise tasks will be key to the success in this role.

The money’s great. The base salary is competitive with an additional annual bonus (up to 20%), 30 days of annual leave (with public holidays on top of that) and one of the most generous pensions currently available in the UK (Civil Service Alpha Pension Scheme).
