Would you like to be engaging with communities at the heart of one of the world’s largest and most challenging environmental engineering projects, as they explore the possibility of hosting a geological disposal facility (GDF) for the long-term management of some of the UK’s radioactive waste?

Role description

Your focus will be upon developing strong and trusted local relationships with communities to help them engage with the GDF siting process, supporting them on their journey . • Executing approaches to local community engagement that attract and retain communities in the siting process.
  • Developing and managing stakeholder relationships and resources to deliver community engagement activities.
  • and Advising the Head of Community Engagement on community engagement issues.

This is not a Monday to Friday, nine to five position. It will involve travel, meetings, attending events, delivering presentations and numerous activities in between. You’ll need to be resilient, diplomatic, driven and compassionate, as well as building trust in the communities in which you’ll engage.

Essential skills

Qualifications are not the main focus. Instead, an understanding of how to manage community, social and environmental issues as well as politics at national, regional and local level are high up on the list of must haves, and a broad understanding of land-use planning processes could be helpful.
