Role description

As an EC&I Installation, Commissioning and Pre-Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for safe and successful delivery of Installation, Commissioning & Pre-Operations activities for projects in operations and infrastructure areas of the LLW Repository site.

About LLWR
The Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR) has a proud past, a busy present and an exciting future. LLWR have managed the UK’s low level radioactive waste for more than 60 years and are now ready to play their part as a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). In 2009, 95% of low level waste was disposed of at the Repository. Today that figure is below 5%. LLWR has led the way in securing effective solutions for lower activity waste management, diverting material away from the site by utilising a range of treatment and alternative disposal routes.

LLWR has now launched the largest construction programme it has yet undertaken, the Repository Development Programme (RDP), to span 3 decades. Planning permission has been secured to allow the construction of a final cap over existing and new vaults and seven landfill-style trenches where waste was disposed of prior to the opening of the site’s first vault in 1988. Their top priority has always been safety – of their community, workforce and the environment – as reflected in their safety performance.

If you join the LLWR family you will find a positive and supportive environment where your physical and mental health are prioritised and an inclusive atmosphere, free from discrimination, is promoted, alongside a commitment to excellence.

Salary and Benefits
LLWR will be offering a competitive basic salary depending on your experience, a pension contribution up to 13.5% as well as an annual bonus based upon company performance and a further individual performance related bonus dependent on the level of your role.

Health and well-being are extremely important to LLWR and they believe in supporting both mental and physical well being wellbeing, offering private medical insurance which covers both out-patient and in-patient treatments; medical history is disregarded.

Other benefits include:

  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Sick Pay
  • Life Assurance

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Experience and Qualifications
Experience within EC&I installations, through concept and commissioning is highly desirable although as a minimum, strong instrumentation experience with lesser focus upon controls and electrical could also fit with the team. Experience within regulated industries, rather than just nuclear, is welcomed.

A large part of this role lends oversight to contractors and supply chain organisations delivering to LLWR and your experience is essential to overseeing this, and there are also elements which will require you to be hands on, so this is a great opportunity to be involved on that basis also.

With regards to location, there are elements of this role which will require time on site in Cumbria, but there are also elements which don’t require time on site, and can be conducted remotely, which is actively supported.

Essential skills

EC&I installations, through concept and commissioning.

I’ve been within recruitment for over a decade covering fast paced contract recruitment, project recruitment and account management, within large scale business and niche consultancy environments, all within the nuclear industry. I am passionate about the point where company meets individual to ensure the best fit professionally, personally and culturally, and providing an excellent customer service sits at the core of everything I do and strive to deliver.
