Role description

For a well known client operating in the United Arab Emirates, we are currently looking for an Infrastructure Head/Architect. This is a long-term job opportunity.

The Infrastructure Head/Architect is responsible for managing infrastructure activities and second level of support along with managing third level of support for hardware, software, networks, facilities and related equipment used to develop, test, operate, monitor, manage and/or support enterprise technology services. In addition, this role is responsible for working closely with the Enterprise Technology and Cyber teams to ensure supporting infrastructure meets operational and business non-functional requirements. Furthermore, the Infrastructure Head is responsible for managing all data centres and archives and ensuring business continuity plans are facilitated.

The Infrastructure Head is also responsible for monitoring staff performance and providing continuous feedback and support to foster section improvements.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead infrastructure solution design and integration which includes developing short and long-term strategic plans to build infrastructure capacity that meets existing and future requirements
  • Manage the interpretation of capacity needs for core infrastructure (primary server and desktop hardware, storage, networking, firewalls, intrusion detection, databases, virtual infrastructure, and operating systems) through thorough planning, installation, setup, support and documentation of infrastructure systems
  • Ensure that all infrastructure activities (related to Databases, Systems and Networks) are implemented as per the set policies and procedures taking into consideration best practices and ensure that infrastructure provision and support is robust and comprehensive
  • Ensure that the overall infrastructure is updated and maintained in line with the organisational needs and best practices, which includes conducting upgrades and maintenance for software, servers, storages, switches and all infrastructure inventory
  • Manage and protect all primary, secondary, and redundant data centres in addition to managing and maintaining the electronic archives, and ensuring the availability and readiness of alternative work site
  • Ensure the timely provision of data and reports to the Service Delivery team and recommend strategic improvements in order to support in planning, decision making and continuous improvement of infrastructure services
  • Support in the management of projects related to infrastructure activities and ensure its alignment and integration with set requirements and standards in conjunction with the Service Delivery team
  • Oversee the performance of networks, oversee troubleshooting related to infrastructure, and review its functionality to ensure optimal performance which includes troubleshooting in WAN, LAN, Firewall, VPN and communication systems
  • Review annual spend and assess return on investment and areas for improvement in relation to infrastructure
  • Drive the continuous training and upskilling of staff to develop skills in line with new technologies, in close coordination with Human Capital
  • Remain abreast of external developments in operations and processes, identifying requirements for implementing and upgrading infrastructure which includes selecting areas for investment, proposing projects, supporting other teams in their preparation of business cases or cost / benefit analysis and identifying external vendors
  • Identify and manage risks associated with infrastructure activities (in coordination with the Enterprise Risk Management team)
  • Participate in devising plans for business continuity and disaster recovery related to infrastructure in coordination with the Business Continuity Management team
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Enterprise Technology and Cyber function and the various departments to ensure appropriate support and collaboration exist to achieve the organisational objectives

Standard Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of department strategy, policies and procedures in alignment with the functional objectives taking into account the changing needs
  • Manage the activities of direct reports to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner, in line with the section plans, and policies and procedures
  • Provide input into the preparation and consolidation of the function’s budget and advise line management on risks and opportunities
  • Implement the opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment, and leveraging insights. This includes managing the related change management efforts
  • Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the section’s requirements, policies and standards

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Enterprise/Information Technology, Information Systems or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in Enterprise/Information Technology, Infrastructure, Network, Security or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years holding a managerial role in Enterprise/Information Technology, Infrastructure, Network, Security or related field
  • Experience in implementing infrastructure concepts, frameworks and standards including operating systems, networking protocols, storage and backup and hardware
  • Experience in working with local cloud service providers in complex environments,
  • Experience in a multinational company

Desirable Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Enterprise/Information Technology, Information Systems or related
  • field
  • Experience in a diverse/multi-cultural business industry (obtained from medium to large organisation)
  • Experience in managing hardware, networks, facilities and data centres in the Energy and Utility sector
  • One of the following certifications: CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Data Centre, CCNP Security preferred, CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Server+, Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, G42 Cloud
