We are currently looking for an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer for a major nuclear new build project in Finland. This is an initial 10 months contract with a possible extension to be based on site.

Role description

As Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will be part of a nuclear safety team integrating personnel from our well-known client and other organizations. You will be supporting the Nuclear Safety Manager in developing the nuclear safety culture and providing recommendations for the safe performance of the activities.

Responsibilities

The duties of work of the Nuclear Safety Engineer within the team is defined – but not limited to – by the following:

  • draft safety messages
  • design and provide training
  • value experience feedback
  • collect weak signals and include them in databases
  • review events and weak signals and propose preventive actions
  • ensure interface for nuclear safety matters
  • review and assess nuclear safety culture, define and implement actions where appropriate
  • review processes
  • support performance or modification of commissioning tests
  • support performance or scheduling of preventive and corrective maintenance
  • support design change requests
  • support overall scheduling of activities
  • participate to start-up committee reviews
  • support performance of risk assessments

Essential skills

  • Excellent written and spoken technical English
  • Technical education accordingly
  • PWR knowledge
  • 10 yrs of practical experience in nuclear, which of minim. 5 on NPP
  • Practical experience in risk assessment activities and knowledge of nuclear safety regulations, guidelines and fundamentals of Nuclear Safety Culture
  • Experience in root cause analysis; corrective and preventive actions proposals; and follow -up action plans

Desired skills

  • French and/or Finnish language skills
  • Experience in large-scale projects; commissioning or start-up of nuclear facilities; technical specifications use and interpretation; regulator interface; working group leading; design of written communication; design and/or performance of training sessions, and in-field observation and reporting.
  • Knowledge of practical tools used and human factors methodology
