Our client, Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC), is now hiring for a Project Controls Manager.

Remote work will be allowed the first few months, until it is possible to work from the office in Ottawa, ON. A relocation to the Ottawa region, ON eventually be expected once it is safe.

This is a permanent employment opportunity. However, an initial contract can be discussed if needed, to be converted as permanent employment later on.



Role description

As a Project Controls Manager, you will ensure all budgeting, scheduling and coordination processes run smoothly. The Project Controls Manager shall monitor the progress of the projects to ensure that they are working within the confines of set deadlines and budget limitations and shall generate progress reports to managers. The Project Controls Manager shall also make suggestions for improvements to project operations as needed.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Oversee Project Budgeting/Costing – assist in setting the project budget, and in tracking adherence to the budget, working alongside the Project Finance Team.
  • Oversee Project Schedule – assist in defining and setting up the project schedule, work with the Project Scheduler to maintain the schedule baseline, to implement changes to the schedule, to update the schedule, and to analyze and report on the schedule.
  • Monitor Project Activities – continually monitor and evaluate project progress to ensure that it is meeting budgetary and deadline goals. Assess Project Needs – assist the Project Lead to assess and implement solutions to staffing needs, schedule changes, project scope adjustments and more.
  • Generate Project Reports – work with the Project Lead to define reporting requirements and metrics, create and maintain the reports as required, and present the details of the reports to senior managers.
  • Develop Project Control Governance and Tools: Develop, approve, and implement all project controls processes, procedures, forms, and tools, including the identification of Project Controls Software Requirements.
  • Suggest and Manage Changes in Project Processes – monitor the project for possible process improvements to maintain efficiency and cost control; once approved by the Project Lead, assume responsibility for implementing and managing improvements.
  • Manage Project Controls Team – manage the Project Scheduler, and other team members as required.

Essential skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, business administration, finance or accounting
  • 7+ years of experience in Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Chemical or Aerospace industry. Nuclear experience is not a requirement.
    • Evaluation of step-by-step project management processes
    • Creation of and adjusting of project budgets
    • Forecasting of project goals and completion
    • Development of project scheduling, budgeting and progress reports
  • Use of Microsoft applications to create reports and present information in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Use of project management software (Primavera 6) to assist in project scheduling and forecasting
  • Use of accounting software to assist in setting and monitoring costs of a project.

Desired skills

The role includes sitting, standing, and bending; repetitive motions of hands and wrists due to frequent computer use; must be able to sit at a computer or workstation for extended periods.
