Role description

For one of our clients in Belgium, we are currently looking for a Radiation Protection & Radiological Characterization Engineer with nuclear industry experience and fluency in French or Dutch to join activities for multiple nuclear power plants. This is an initial 1-year contract to be based in Brussels with some potential travel to site.

Responsibilities

The Radwaste & Radiation Protection Group, which is part of the Radwaste and D&D Department, is the competence center in charge of assisting clients of the nuclear segment, with high added value consulting and engineering for radiation protection and radiological characterization studies.

Participate in the preparation of bids, the studies and the projects regarding radiation protection issues by:

  • Performing radiation shielding calculations and the ALARA follow-up of nuclear installations, including interventions on site when needed;
  • Gaining knowledge about radiation protection codes;
  • Specifying, ordering and commissioning radioactivity monitoring systems.

Participate in the preparation of bids, the studies and the projects regarding radiological characterization issues by:

  • Gaining knowledge about codes developed for the radiological characterization of operational and dismantling waste;
  • Developing methodologies for the radiological characterization of waste;
  • Assisting nuclear power plants to answer queries from the Belgian National Agency for Radioactive Waste about waste removal forms.

Essential skills

  • Master degree or a PhD in engineering or sciences, preferably with a specialization in physics, and a strong will to develop the technical expertise.
  • Several years of experience or more in the nuclear industry and particularly in radiation protection is an asset.
  • Fluency in French or Dutch, as well as in English.
  • Able to draw up reports in French or Dutch and in English.
  • Familiar with the MS-Office software suite, Visual Basic and Access.
  • Autonomous and like teamwork.
  • Available and open to gain new competencies as well as to share them.
