This role brings you the opportunity to manage and develop Control, Electrical & Instrumentation technology in order to ensure a safe and economic design and operation of facilities in compliance with regulatory requirements. Also, you will manage specific CE&I R&D activities and projects and provide ad-hoc support

For this permanent role, you can decide in which of the following locations you would like to be based: Capenhurst (UK; Preferred) Almelo (Netherlands) OR Gronau (Germany). There is flexibility to work from home 40% of the time.

Your day to day will be shaped by the following tasks:

  • Key Account Management: You will be the focal point for SMEs on site -a skilled expert in the Group for this competence. Leverage a detailed understanding of the operation in the specialist area to identify improvement opportunities
    Conduct the technical assessments of projects and provide inputs to the Principal R&D Manager to facilitate project prioritization
  • Technology Ownership: Support Asset Management in technical audits. Support technology assessment exercises for this area of competence and assess the TRL for projects. Act as the expert for this competence’s technology and provide advice to the Head of R&D and the wider organisation. Screen new external technological developments for their relevance and potential application for the respective competence.
  • R&D Portfolio: Document and hand-over results of R&D projects to customer or other stakeholders. Feed into wider R&D reporting. Execute the planning, mobilisation and delivery of R&D projects. Support the identification of new project opportunities for this area of competence. Manage all project stakeholders and support wider stakeholder management for this competence

On the financial side, you will support the R&D budget process, providing inputs for respective projects.

You will also provide guidance and support to team members in the product line and take care of the personal development to support R&D activities

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Masters or equivalent degree in Engineering with focus on Control; Electrical and/ or Instrumentation.
  • Heavy, process OR chemical industry background and good understanding of its safety and regulatory environment, preferably with nuclear experience
  • Familiar with structuring, budgeting executing and reporting R&D and qualification programs
  • Experience with participation in international R&D teams
  • Experience in selecting the right technology for major projects, to satisfy technical, commercial and customer requirements using a robust methodology
  • Understanding of motor drive systems and their application to different types of electric motors
  • Familiar with process control system architectures such as SCADA, DCS and PCS
  • Awareness and appreciation of electronics, including discrete analogue power electronics, digital electronics and microprocessor-based technology
  • Understanding of the design and operating principles of different types of process control instrumentation, such as pressure, temperature, flow and weight measuring instruments
  • Familiar with project management tools and procedures
