Role description

Looking for a chance to use your requirements management expertise to contribute to UK’s environmental rehabilitation? Join NWS to play a key role in the development and maintenance of the requirements management, architectures and interfaces for the GDF Programme.

NWS’ vision is to secure a safer future for us all.

NWS’ mission is to protect people and the environment by managing the UK’s nuclear waste innovatively and sustainably.

Part of NWS’ mission is to deliver a Geological Disposal Facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions. The GDF will play an important role in resolving the long-outstanding environmental issue of how we safely dispose of legacy and future nuclear waste. It will be one of the most significant national infrastructure projects in the UK and will create investment and employment opportunities which will last for decades.

As a Requirements Manager you will be:

  • Developing GDF Sponsor’s and System Requirements through facilitation of multi-disciplinary workshops and discussions.
  • Ensuring all requirements pertaining to the development of the GDF are conforming to in-house procedures and best practice.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date requirements management tool (currently DOORS Next).
  • Supporting the development of systems engineering processes such as interface control, verification and validation (V+V), configuration and change control.

  • Experience of Systems Engineering and requirements management in complex projects and programmes (ideally nuclear or infrastructure sectors).
  • An understanding of Systems Engineering processes and practices, as defined in ISO15288 and INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook
  • Experience of working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to elicit requirements and develop system architectures.

Your pragmatic character and excellent communication skills will be an asset to a team that is expanding in the efforts of contributing to the GDF Programme.

NWS have offices based in Harwell, Warrington and Cumbria, and welcome applicants from any location, including remote working requirements. Please discuss your individual requirements with your recruitment consultant.

As well as the opportunity to be part of this major environmental project, NWS also offer you an annual bonus, 30 days of annual leave (with public holidays on top) and one of the most generous pensions currently available in the UK (Civil Service Alpha Pension Scheme).

About NWS:

As of the 31 January 2022, Nuclear Waste Services has been set up to combine all of the NDA Waste activities, giving greater flexibility and driving improvements and synergies across the NDA Group. This brings together LLW Repository Limited, Radioactive Waste Management Limited and the NDA Integrated Waste Management Programme (each with their own IT teams, infrastructure, and systems).

Nuclear Waste Services value the unique differences that each of our colleagues bring to work every day and are committed to creating a diverse workplace where everyone feels respected, included and able to perform at their best. We value the diversity of our people and recognise the benefits a diverse workforce can bring to the business. Currently we are underrepresented in some areas, and would particularly welcome applications from Women, Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities, LGBTQ+ and candidates who have a disability.

Disability Confident:

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) is a member of the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all candidates who have a disability and who meet all of the essential criteria for the vacancy. In cases where we have a high volume of candidates who have a disability who meet all of the essential criteria NWS will interview the best candidates from within that group.

My colleagues and I have in depth knowledge of the structure, current projects and future projects of organisations in the international nuclear energy industry. We use this information to map out where opportunities exist and then match the experts we represent with the right opportunities. If you are currently working in the nuclear industry then we can offer you advice, support and representation. Please feel free to contact me.
