Role description

As the Senior Geological Modeller you use your extensive expertise to plan, oversee and deliver groundwater and solute transport (coupled process) numerical models for the GDF.  You’ll have overall responsibility for the technical integration of geosphere modelling needs and outcomes to support cross-organisation requirements.

As a new role, you will initially work with stakeholders to identify geological modelling requirements and develop an agreed forward work programme.  You will use your influencing and diplomacy skills to secure buy-in to the work programme and securing budgets.  You will also need to identify the software and hardware required to deliver RWM’s geological modelling aspiration and support its implementation.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

You will need to effectively communicate numerical and conceptual model outcomes to support RWM’s multidisciplinary projects and use groundwater and solute transport models to inform and underpin safety case arguments; interactions of the site descriptive model (SDM) and permit applications (as appropriate). As our programme develops you may work with external stakeholders and communities to support their understanding of the geological context of a site.

As an individual you will maintain an understanding of emerging numerical approaches and techniques through the delivery of research projects.  This will need to include representation of deep, low permeability hydrogeological settings as well as nearer surface settings.  You’ll be responsible for the management of geosphere models at a range of scales, delivering  numerical models that represent solute transport (including coupled processes);  and to evaluate past and predict future evolution of groundwater flow and chemistry for advective and diffusive systems.

This role includes project and work package management activities as well as contract and contractor management.
