RWM’s mission is to deliver a Geological Disposal Facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA, RWM’s programmes of work deliver Government Policy, and NDA Strategy, for radioactive waste management.

The Role

As a Senior Waste Management Specialist, you will join the Waste Management directorate to ensure the delivery and integrity of waste package disposability assessments. Your previous experience managing multiple projects will contribute to leading a team in the tactical level engagement with customers to develop and deliver a programme to demonstrate the disposability of waste packaging solutions.


  • Responsible for the delivery and integrity of disposability assessments and for delivery of specified aspects of the assessment process.
  • Manage Expert View assessments, preparing the Expert View advice and providing subsequent feedback to the customer.
  • Active engagement with customers, recognising priorities and managing the forward submissions programme for the assigned customer(s) to ensure that assessments can be resourced.
  • Support the relevant Head of Disposability Assessments in strategy level engagement with assigned customer(s).
  • Responsible for Team management, including line management responsibility for Waste Management Specialists.

Skills and Experience

  • Good first degree in science or engineering subject.
  • Experience of radioactive waste packaging process and UK waste packaging plant, and of options for packaging of legacy wastes and future wastes from new activities
  • Demonstrable experience in managing the effective delivery of multiple parallel projects.
  • Technical report writing to a good standard of English.

Your previous experience in building strong relationships with clients and a confident approach in the decision-making processes will contribute to Supporting the development of Waste Management Specialists as required, and to identifying the programme of future assessments and future resource demands to ensure delivery.
