We are supporting our partner – Moltex Energy – in seeking a Shielding Engineer to join their growing team in their efforts to contribute and respond to the world’s critical necessity of clean energy. They have the technology to transform the energy landscape, ushering in a new age of clean, low-cost energy for all.

As a Shielding Engineer, you will report to the Lead Physicist and partner closely with the diverse Moltex team. This role will require effective working across internal and external teams including molten salt chemistry, engineering, materials science, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of radiation physics and shielding models and simulations to substantiate the safe operation of the suite of Stable Salt Reactors. As a Shielding Engineer you will;

  • Develop and validate models and simulations.
  • Design shielding solutions to protect workers and the public.
  • Work with and build relationships with industry and academic experts to maximise input of existing knowledge and expertise into the reactor design, and other R&D activities.
  • Present and substantiate solutions to a variety of stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.

Skills, qualifications & experience

  • Higher degree in physics, including nuclear. PhD and/or industry experience an asset.
  • Understanding and experience of shielding modelling and simulation an asset.
  • Broad science and engineering appreciation with the demonstrable ability and intellect to understand other disciplines and apply this to their design and development work.
  • Knowledge of specific radiation shielding codes (e.g. ATTILA, MCBEND).
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent team worker and an effective communicator.
