Thomas Thor Associates has a long-term, part-time, remote opening for a Nuclear Radioactive Waste Management Expert for a new technology nuclear reactor to be built in New Brunswick, CA.

It is a unique opportunity to share your Radwaste Management expertise and contribute to the design and development of the first Stable Salt Reactor, which is a simpler and smaller reactor than traditional reactors, making itless expensive to build and operate.

Additional details:

  • Project Location: Saint John, New Brunswick
  • Part-time: 50% to 80%
  • Primarily remote work with occasional visits to Saint John, NB when necessary
  • 12 months initial contract with possible 1-year renewal

 

 

 

Role description

You will be working with a team of engineers on designing a nuclear fuel facility and Stable Salt Reactor. You will lead the development of the waste management solution, and the interaction with R&D staff, suppliers, regulators, and customers.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify waste streams from chemical or physical processes.
  • Assessing acceptance criteria set by waste disposal organizations.
  • Assess technologies that are required for storing, treating, transporting, and disposing the waste.
  • Create solutions for managing waste forms such as salts and alloys.
  • Develop safety cases to support licensing activities.
  • Establish design requirements for the facilities from the waste management perspective.
  • Work with research and development staff to develop the R&D plan.
  • Interact with suppliers, customers, regulators, and other stakeholders.

 

Essential skills

  • 10+ years of experience on nuclear facility design required.
  • Experience in nuclear waste management or R&D required
  • Knowledge of deep geological repository required.

  • Working experience on Canadian nuclear regulations preferred.

Rate/Salary

A hourly rate will be discussed, according to availability and level of expertise.
