Protecting current and future generations is at the heart of Radioactive Waste Management’s (RWM) mission to deliver the UK’s first Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) and provide radioactive waste management solutions.

Role description

As Principal Procurement Business Partner you will work collaboratively with senior stakeholders across multiple directorates to define effective sourcing strategies for RWM’s key procurements. As part of a diverse team you will also ensure that the business develops a wider understanding of successful strategic approaches to procurement development, and their implementation within RWM.


  • Develop and implement appropriate commercial strategies, managing procurements throughout the programme lifecycle.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a portfolio of procurements, ensuring compliance with public procurement policy and legislation.
  • Ensure spend categories demonstrably deliver value for money and meet users’ needs, including supporting contract management activity.
  • Develop and maintain a robust framework of good governance and commercial control, promoting awareness of and compliance with good commercial practice and public expenditure controls.
  • Develop and manage the pipeline of procurement activities for your portfolio of responsibility and support of the budgeting process.
  • Develop and manage the team and the pipeline of procurement activities for their portfolio of responsibility and procurement plan in support of the annual budget process.
  • Provide day-to-day commercial evaluation of contractual arrangements and support to underpin business case analysis, as well as develop commercial staff.

You will be joining a growing team focused on maturing and modernising their approach to public sector procurement, allowing you the opportunity to shape and develop this strategy.

Essential skills

You will;

  • Be able to demonstrate good influencing and negotiation skills, to check and challenge specifications with key stakeholders and help define effective sourcing strategies.
  • Have experience managing a team, ideally within a category management structure
  • Excellent understanding of how to run end-to-end procurement projects in accordance with Public Contract Regulations.
  • Have previous experience of managing a variety of procurement projects.
  • Have experience prioritising a challenging workload of competing priorities.

The post will need someone who is passionate about successful and best practice procurement approaches, and will provide high quality innovative procurements while managing a team as it grows.
