Looking for a change? Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) has multiple opportunities for experienced Safety Case Officers (Manager) to join their ever-growing team to deliver the Geological Disposal Facility for UK ILW/HLW waste.

Role description

As a Safety Case Officer, you will lead a team of safety case engineers to ensure the safety case is technically fit for purpose and delivered accordingly to the satisfaction of the Head of Nuclear Safety. This includes the management of the governance of the safety case, providing leadership and key nuclear safety input to design development of the GDF, ensuring that nuclear safety requirements are incorporated.


You will use your experience to interrogate and analyse data to make decisions and lead recommendations. In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Categorisation proposal of the safety case and seek agreement in accordance with due process.
  • Training and Development of team members, including maintenance of SQEP capability and resilience, succession planning.
  • Acting as the leading interface with the environment, engineering and requirements teams.
  • Ensuring that safety cases (including supporting references) are integrated and developed in compliance with due process to ensure that a coherent, consistent and holistic structure is maintained.
  • Developing the strategy and specification for each safety case section and communicating the strategy within the team and amongst stakeholders.
  • Providing management and support to the safety case engineers on scope and direction of technical issues associated with the safety report sections and technical topics under their scope.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate progress reporting to the Head of Nuclear Safety, nominated Lead Project Manager and key internal stakeholders.

You will use your communication skills to partner with senior management and interface with the regulators to ensure the safety case is delivered and developed within RWM standards.
