Thomas Thor USA, in support of Longenecker & Associates, is currently seeking a Safety Manager to support their vision and strategy at the Sandia National Laboratory to lead their construction safety program. This is a permanent position to be based  Albuquerque, New Mexico

Role description

Safety Manager will be primarily responsible to conduct independent safety compliance and oversight activities for construction and service and maintenance activities



  1. Identify construction and industrial safety issues and reporting concerns to management and SDRs for corrective action.
  2. Provide high level Subject Mater Expert (SME) expertise in construction safety rubrics.
  3. Provide construction safety management oversight on jobsites.
  4. Provide guidance and interpretations of Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE) and NTESS safety and health regulations and policies for implementation into the NTESS Programs.
  5. Conduct safety inspections based on Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), DOE, and NTESS Standards, Orders, and Policies for construction and maintenance activities on NTESS-controlled premises;
  6. Establish and maintain required records and reports.
  7. Review and comment on safety aspects of Subcontractor safety plans, reviewing and providing safety guidance and interpretation for job site hazard assessments.
  8. Provide support to the SNL Facilities Construction Safety and Maintenance Programs which includes the following:
    • Reviewing and updating policy
    • Support communication initiatives on safety topics
    • Evaluate safety metrics
  1. Review injury and illness evaluating causation and recommend corrections
  2. Review safety documentation and providing input

Essential skills

We are currently recruiting applicants that are legally entitled to work in the United Sates of America.

  • Associates degree and 7 years of experience in construction safety or other related safety field; or have a B.A. or B.S. degree and 4 years of similar experience. Degree must be in a safety, fire science, industrial hygiene, or a related safety field as an alternative, no degree with 10 years of experience.
  • Knowledge and application of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 20 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety (BBS) procedures and construction practices.
  • Completed OSHA 10-hour training.

She was also responsible for program reporting and analytics and partnering with Colleges/Universities within FirstEnergy footprint to attract top and diverse talent. Since obtaining her Bachelor’s in Psychology degree from Case Western Reserve University Jaleesa has become a senior level results driven HR professional with 11 years focused experience in Strategic Talent Acquisition, Diversity & Inclusion, Employee Engagement and Talent Development initiatives. From supporting small-mid size international companies to regional large organizations employing 15,000-33,000 people, Jaleesa gained extensive knowledge in many aspects of the Human Resources field and recently obtain her SHRM Senior Certified Professional certification in July 2019 after also renewing her CDR (Certified Diversity Recruiter) designation. She is comfortable working with all levels of leadership from customer service reps and line supervisors to Sr. VPs and CIOs.
