Role description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Assessment Manager to join RWM and define, maintain & implement the strategy for environmental and sustainability assessments. You will provide technical leadership in key assessment areas and, using strong interpersonal skills, will represent RWM with national and international stakeholders.


As a Senior Environmental Assessment Manager, you will:

  • Define and deliver RWM’s programme of environmental and sustainability assessments. These include generic environmental, socio-economic and health impact assessments, community-specific assessments for the siting process, and site-specific assessments (e.g. EIA and Habitats Regulations Assessment) essential for the statutory land-use planning and regulatory processes.
  • Manage and co-ordinate a wide range of complex, specialist technical inputs to the environmental and sustainability assessment work to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and policy frameworks and that statutory assessments are robust to legal challenge.
  • Ensure Strategy requirements are appropriately captured in RWM’s work programme, effectively integrating environmental work across a range of functions – including research, engineering design, site evaluation, safety case development and permitting.
  • Lead the development of technical specifications for environmental and sustainability assessment work to be delivered under contract.
  • Manage Day to day of contractors.
  • Review outputs from contractors and ensuring final products are of appropriate quality.

Essential skills

To be successful in this role you will have experience managing and co-ordinating technical inputs to strategic environmental assessments. You will have a good understanding of safety case development in relation to geological disposals within the UK. In addition, you will have experience managing relationships with regulators & stakeholders as you act as an ambassador for RWM with external partners.
