RWM’s mission is to deliver a Geological Disposal Facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA, RWM’s programmes of work deliver Government Policy, and NDA Strategy, for radioactive waste management.

The Role

As a Waste Strategy Specialist, you will be responsible for leading and supporting the work packages and tasks within the Strategic Waste Programme.


  • Provision of technical input to the Strategic Waste Programme, principally in the areas of opportunities related to NDA’s Integrated Waste Management Programme (IWMP), NDA Strategy and delivery of requirements within RWM’s Client Specification.
  • Provision of technical project management support to the Programme Manager and Senior Waste Strategy Specialist – Strategic Waste Programme as required.
  • Following the identification of opportunities through engagement with stakeholders, the job holder is responsible for working closely with the relevant Site Facing Team to ensure the opportunities are realised,
  • Interface with RWM colleagues, particularly the Concept Selection Manager and the Disposability Assessment Teams along with others as required to ensure that technical input to specific work tasks is accurate, and to communicate the outputs of these tasks.

Skills and Experience

  • Good degree in science or engineering subject.
  • Working knowledge of the inventory of higher activity wastes, including knowledge of the form, characteristics and hazards of the wastes.
  • Good understanding of the requirements for the management, treatment and geological disposal of radioactive wastes and materials.
  • Familiarity with and use of the NDA Value Framework and its application to the Strategic Waste programme.
  • Familiarity with current waste management plans and baselines across the estate (as detailed in Life Time Plans).
