Software Quality Engineer 3 (NQA-1)

We are supporting a leading nuclear technology programme looking to strengthen its Enterprise Software team with an experienced professional in nuclear quality assurance and software procedures.

This is a contract opportunity focused on updating and aligning software plans, procedures, and work instructions to meet NQA-1 requirements across both 2008/2009a and 2022 frameworks. You will play a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance across engineering, code development, procurement, and document control activities.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate existing software QA programmes against NQA-1 2008/2009a and 2022 requirements
• Lead updates and development of software-related plans, procedures, and work instructions
• Ensure compliance with NQA-1, IEEE standards, and applicable NRC regulatory guidance
• Support engineering and software teams with regulatory interpretation and implementation
• Contribute to continuous improvement of software quality and compliance processes

Required Experience & Profile

• Experience developing or implementing nuclear QA programmes (minimum 5 years)
• Strong background in NQA-1, ideally with exposure to both 2008/2009a and 2022 versions
• Experience with software-related regulatory frameworks (e.g. IEEE 7-4.3.2, NRC Regulatory Guides 1.52, 1.168-1.173)
• Proven technical writing experience within a nuclear or highly regulated environment
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across teams in a structured way
• Commercial nuclear experience strongly preferred

Preferred

• Experience with ASME BPVC Section III programmes
• Background in software development under a quality programme
