Role description

For a well known client operating in the United Arab Emirates, we are currently looking for an Application Architect Leadet. This is a long-term job opportunity.

The Application Architect Leader is responsible for managing the development, integration, availability and update of the required enterprise systems and applications for the effective operation. In addition, the Application Architect Leader is responsible for managing the second and third levels of support of enterprise applications, investigating problems, identifying their root causes, and suggesting solutions and/or pathways to them. Furthermore, the role is responsible for supporting the development of strategic vendor relationships.

The Application Architect Leader is also responsible for monitoring staff performance and providing continuous feedback and support to foster section improvements.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Manage the development, integration, availability and update of the required enterprise applications for the effective operation of the client and monitor and update them on a regular basis based on business requirements

Develop and implement appropriate change control processes and policies

● Manage the implementation of new applications

● Ensure support and troubleshooting for applications is provided in a timely and effective manner

Establish an applications and systems framework detailing the policies, procedures and processes for the identification, selection and implementation of new applications and systems, and the support and maintenance of existing applications and systems

Ensure alignment of the enterprise applications with the defined enterprise architecture and Cybersecurity standards

Ensure applications and systems are assessed based on the framework and determine cost and anticipated value in coordination with the relevant Finance Team (Accounting and Financial Control)

Support the assessment and selection of strategic vendors to ensure vendors have a technology roadmap that aligns with Enterprise Technology strategy

Support the identification of implementation providers, in accordance with the requirements of the client and the procurement process in coordination with the relevant stakeholder including the requesting party, Service Delivery team, and finance and procurement teams

Ensure teams and individuals are provided with required support with applications and systems related issues, working closely with them to troubleshoot software problems

Manage the identification of root cause issues of applications and systems problems and identify the most suitable solution/s. Inform the team/s or individual/s facing the problem and implement the solution with the least possible impact on client operations

Provide pilot solutions for application and systems issues, to ensure they are fit for purpose

Ensure a service focused mind-set, seeking to assist teams and individuals as with applications and system queries and issues as effectively and efficiently as possible

Establish a comprehensive application and system support log, ensuring it is maintained thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner

● Establish and monitor applications in line with developed KPIs and develop corrective actions to drive enhanced performance

Periodically review the support log and feedback from internal teams related to enterprise applications, to identify and act on opportunities for improvement

Identify and manage risks associated with the use of enterprise applications (in coordination with the Enterprise Risk Management team)

Participate in devising plans for Business Continuity and Disaster recovery related to enterprise applications in coordination with the Business Continuity Management team. Conduct failover exercises on a regular basis in order to test the Disaster recovery plans

Work closely with colleagues in the Enterprise Technology and Cyber function and the various departments to ensure appropriate support and collaboration exist to achieve the organisational objectives

Standard Responsibilities:

Contribute to the development and execution of department strategy, policies and procedures in alignment with the functional objectives taking into account the changing needs

Manage the activities of direct reports to ensure that all work is carried out in an efficient manner, in line with the section plans, and policies and procedures

Provide input into the preparation and consolidation of the function’s budget and advise line management on risks and opportunities

Implement the opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment, and leveraging insights. This includes managing the related change management efforts

Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the section’s requirements, policies and standards

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Essential Requirements:

Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in Application Development, Application Lifecycle Management, and Enterprise/Information Technology or related field

Minimum of 4 years holding a managerial role in Application Development, Application Lifecycle Management, and Enterprise/Information Technology or related field

Experience in defining sector specific applications (AMI, CC&B, etc.) in the Energy and Utility sector

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Enterprise/Information Technology, Information Systems or related field

Must have at least one related certification: Agile Scrum, certifications in AWS (Solutions Architect Professional), Azure (Building Applications and Solutions with Microsoft 365 Core Services), and GCP (Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, Professional Cloud Developer)

Desirable Requirements:

Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems or related field

One of the following certifications: ITILV4 (Intermediate or Expert level), COBIT5 (Implementation level) or equivalent

Experience in a multinational company
