RWM’s mission is to deliver a Geological Disposal Facility and provide radioactive waste management solutions. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA, RWM’s programmes of work deliver Government Policy, and NDA Strategy, for radioactive waste management.

The Role

Being the Senior Waste Strategy Specialist, you will be responsible for management and co-ordination of a programme of work to deliver the Strategic Waste Programme. Your knowledge of waste management lifecycle and project management will contribute to the integration and collaboration with waste management stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the programme.


  • Ensure that the Strategic Waste programme is supported by an appropriate business case.
  • Responsible for communicating the Strategic Waste Programme across NDA sites and other industry stakeholders, with key feedback loops to ensure lessons learned are communicated.
  • Represent RWM and the Strategic Waste Programme at industry fora such as the Waste Packaging and Storage Working Group and the Integrated Waste Management Themed Overview Group.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to deliver the objectives of the Strategic Waste Programme.

Skills and Experience

  • Good first degree in science or engineering subject.
  • Programme/Project management experience.
  • Extensive working experience in the field of radioactive waste management.
  • Proven track record of working with stakeholders, chairing and facilitating meetings.
  • Knowledge of the inventory of higher activity wastes, including knowledge of the form, characteristics and hazards of the wastes.
  • Strategic understanding of radioactive waste management and the NDA’s role, including understanding of the emerging NDA topic strategies and programmes.

Your line management experience and good oral and written communication skills will ensure that the strategic waste programme is effectively communicated within RWM, the NDA and across the nuclear industry.
