Contract Type: W2 assignment with full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, 401k, PTO & holiday policy)

About the Role:

We are seeking a Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer to support the design and safety analysis of advanced nuclear reactor systems. In this role, you will be a key member of the Risk Assessment team, performing PRA and severe accident analysis while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, safety, and licensing functions. You will use PRA models to support risk-informed design and decision-making, playing a crucial role in the development of a safe and reliable plant.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support internal and external PRA activities in coordination with safety and plant design teams

  • Use PRA to provide insights and metrics that inform licensing and design decisions

  • Develop and maintain PRA models including event/fault trees, consequence analysis, and source term grouping

  • Conduct risk integration analyses and report risk metrics and importance measures

  • Perform focused PRA studies to support engineering trade-offs and system design

  • Participate in hazard analyses, PIRT exercises, SSC classification, and Licensing Basis Event (LBE) development

  • Engage in PRA peer reviews and regulatory-facing activities

  • Develop technical documentation including topical reports, model documentation, and presentation materials

  • Work cross-functionally with teams to establish performance, safety, and reliability requirements

  • Utilize tools such as CAFTA, FRANX, GOTHIC, MELCOR, RADTRAD, or similar for advanced analyses

  • Prepare and deliver presentations for internal leadership and external stakeholders

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in Probabilistic Risk Assessment

  • Familiarity with ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standards and NEI 18-04 guidance

  • Experience developing PRA models using CAFTA or FRANX (other PRA tools like SAPHIRE or Risk Spectrum also considered)

  • Understanding of key PRA principles: fault/event trees, accident progression, human reliability, and source terms

  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in advanced or sodium-cooled reactors preferred

  • Broad understanding of nuclear power plant design and cross-disciplinary engineering integration

  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration

Why Join Us:

At Thomas Thor, we connect world-class professionals with opportunities that shape the future of clean energy. If you’re passionate about using your PRA expertise to contribute to transformative nuclear technologies, we’d love to hear from you.
