Own the System Architecture of a First-of-a-Kind SMR, Finland
Our client is a Finnish nuclear technology company developing a Small Modular Reactor designed to deliver safe, scalable, carbon-free heat for district heating and industrial use. As Systems Engineer, you will lead design reviews and ensure traceability between requirements, design and evidence – a hands-on, technically-led role with no direct reports, but real influence across every engineering discipline on the project. This is a rare chance to shape the systems engineering frameworks of a nuclear SMR from the ground up, within a fast-moving, mission-driven team.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and coordinate design reviews at system and plant level, covering architecture, integration and interfaces
- Review engineering documentation (models, architectures, schematics and requirements) for verifiability and testability
- Plan and oversee verification activities across the project lifecycle, from concept through to commissioning
- Manage non-conformities, driving root cause analysis and corrective action
- Work closely with every engineering discipline on the project, helping shape how systems engineering is done at Steady Energy from an early stage
What you’ll bring
- Experience in systems or safety engineering within the nuclear industry, ideally covering plant design, system architecture and integration, or safety-classified systems
- A strong grounding in systems engineering, requirements management and design verification methodologies
- A track record of reviewing and challenging system designs constructively and independently
- Confidence coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines
- Fluent English
Location
This role is based in Espoo, just west of Helsinki, with flexible hybrid and remote working options where applicable. Espoo combines an easy commute into central Helsinki with access to coastline, forest and lake scenery on your doorstep – regularly ranked among the best places to live in the world for quality of life, safety and work-life balance. Finland’s wider nuclear and energy engineering community is well established here, making it a natural base for anyone building a career in the sector.
If you want the chance to define how systems engineering is done on a nuclear SMR from the ground up, rather than fitting into a process someone else has already built, this is that opportunity.
Please note this position requires security clearance from the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo).
