Controls Engineer – Onsite | Everett, WA

Contract Length: 12 months with potential extension based on project needs and individual performance
Contract Type: W-2 with full benefits (health, dental, vision, life, 401k, PTO, holidays)

Controls Engineer to support the design, implementation, and commissioning of prototype systems for reactor testing. Working closely with the Lead I&C Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in developing first-of-a-kind control systems and instrumentation for R&D environments, high-temperature systems, and specialized equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, commission, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems across multiple platforms

  • Translate PFDs and P&IDs into actionable control system specifications

  • Support Responsible Test Engineers during I&C system shakedown and testing

  • Review procedures to align with HMI interfaces in collaboration with operators/designers

  • Evaluate and recommend scalable control systems for the Natrium testing program

  • Apply nuclear industry best practices to engineering design and process improvement

  • Promote safety-first operations and a collaborative team environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (advanced degree a plus)

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with instrumentation, controls, or automation systems

  • Expertise in SCADA, PLC, HMI, DAQ, or DCS platforms (e.g., National Instruments, Siemens)

  • Skilled in I&C system design for R&D or high-temperature environments (>300°C)

  • Background in commissioning, calibration, diagnostics, and start-up of I&C systems

  • Field experience with complex data acquisition setups and varied I/O devices

  • Qualified Electrical Worker certification a plus

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a multidisciplinary engineering team
