Schedule: 4x10s (Monday-Thursday, 40 hours/week)

Per Diem: Available for non-local candidates
Travel: Yes – approximately 1 week/month for non-locals; 2 weeks/year for locals

Thomas Thor is seeking experienced Civil Engineers to support the Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) Project. This long-term project will extend the facility’s operating life to 80 years by executing major system upgrades and infrastructure modernization. You will play a key role in delivering safe, code-compliant structural solutions in a highly regulated nuclear environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform civil/structural design for steel and concrete components, including supports, junction boxes, foundations, and embedded conduits

  • Apply industrial codes and standards such as ACI, ASCE, and ASME for lifting, rigging, and structural analysis

  • Perform seismic analysis and design for mechanical equipment and component mounting

  • Review and approve vendor-developed civil engineering packages and drawings

  • Coordinate across engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, regulatory) to deliver integrated design packages

  • Support the field implementation of civil designs and ensure technical accuracy and compliance


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree or PE license preferred)

  • 5+ years of civil/structural engineering experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of structural design principles, codes, and nuclear plant design requirements

  • Experience with seismic-qualified mounting, anchorage, and rigging design

  • Proficient in technical documentation, regulatory interpretation, and engineering communication

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a cross-disciplinary team


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in the nuclear industry

  • Familiarity with Finite Element Modeling (FEM)

  • Proficiency with tools such as Mathcad, GT STRUDL, STAAD, ANSYS

  • Knowledge of NRC regulations, Nuclear Standard Design Process, and Design Change processes

  • Prior experience as a Responsible Engineer at a nuclear facility

  • Strong collaboration and communication across disciplines

  • Adaptability in navigating evolving scopes and complex infrastructure

  • High attention to detail and documentation rigor

  • Initiative, ownership, and ability to drive work independently

  • Comfortable presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
