Nuclear Engineering Lead

A national nuclear new build programme in the Netherlands is looking for a Nuclear Engineering Lead to guide key technical decisions during the early development phase.

You’ll act as the internal expert on nuclear design, helping shape owner’s requirements, licensing strategies, and future vendor engagement. This is a strategic, high-impact role with influence across technology selection, risk management, and organisational capability building.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the internal technical reference point for nuclear design and engineering issues.
• Support the development of owner’s requirements and preparations for licensing and vendor engagement.
• Provide engineering oversight aligned with international codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
• Advise on technology selection, licensing strategy, and site development.
• Collaborate with external vendors, regulators, and Owner’s Engineers.
• Contribute to risk identification and mitigation planning.
• Help shape the organisation’s long-term technical capability, including recruitment and structure.

Profile:

• Extensive nuclear engineering background with experience in new build projects or within the engineering departments of operating nuclear stations.
• Strong understanding of nuclear design principles, licensing processes, and regulatory frameworks.
• Prior experience in roles such as Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, or senior technical leadership within the nuclear sector.
• Experience working with or for technology vendors, operators, or engineering consultancies in nuclear environments.
• Ability to support cross-functional discussions and provide senior-level technical input without holding formal management responsibilities.
